model trains s gauge!
If you have been looking into becoming a model railroader then you have probably realized that it can be a little overwhelming. To make things easier, let us go over some basics that you need to know before your first purchase. I will speak a lot about O scale trains because they are one of the most popular train scales among model railroaders.Pricing - Let me tell you clearly, an O scale train set is generally more expensive than other model trains. However, you might have heard people saying "You get what you pay for"; meaning that the higher price for the O scale suggests that it is of higher quality, which is true in this case. Even so, you can still find worthwhile O scale trains that are affordable. No matter what scale of train you choose, if you want to create a good setup, you must be willing to spend some money to build the benchwork, scenery, tracks, trains, wiring, etc. That being said, there is no need to spend all your money at once. You can progressively increase the size and complexity of your layout over time whenever you have some extra money to spend on it. How much space do you have? - Where did you plan to setup your layout? If you have limited space then an N-scale model train will be most suitable for you. If you planned to get an O scale train set then you should dedicate at least a 6x6 area to your layout. If you can arrange that, then you are in a position create an O-scale model train set up. O-gauge trains require a wide area not just because they are large in size, but they take wider turns than most other train scales. If you are a big collector and you have an enough space, then the O scale model train is the right option for you. The O scale model trains were (and still are) very popular. If someone is interested in buying older trains then most probably you will find that they are buying O scale model trains. Most large train collections consist of old O scale trains. Realism - The O scale trains are more realistic than other models. They are really good at recreating the actual look and feel of the train they are replicating. As I mentioned before, the realism extends all the way to their larger size and need for wider turns. The scenery is also of high quality so you will be able to create an ultra-realistic model train layout using O scale train sets. That is what many model railroaders are looking for, ultra-realism.
