I am one of the many who are being targeted for a trend in a particular sales pitch. What do you mean? You are probably asking. Well the baby boomers (which is becoming the buzz word in selling) are the generation born after the second world war between 1946 and 1964, as the wording means, this was a peek in children being born. Thus a lot of sales are being targeted towards these adults and trends are watched to see where best to put money into a product to sell.Myself, have over the past four or five years begun to buy toys for my grand children and my younger family. These toys have not been the type you would expect, they are a more traditional type, natural wooden toys. So if a trend becomes apparent, just like more sales in natural wooden toys, then a push will be made by the retail giants to sell this kind of toy.Getting back to why I have chosen kids wooden toys is really a combination of events and attitudes that has brought this change to me. I look back to my childhood and remember mainly wooden toys being given as presents to me on Birthdays and Christmas. Wooden hobby horse, wooden trains and building bricks are just a few I can remember. But don't get me completely wrong, plastic toys were just becoming the fad and I had the likes of Airfix models and Action Man figures as presents too.Not all of the wooden toys I buy for my children and grandchildren are because I have this nostalgia ingrained deep down inside of me, no, it's to do partly with the thought of how many years plastic toys have been pumped out from the production line and have been broken then discarded and put into landfill where they will last forever never to degrade.It is also to do with the environment, landfill is not forever, more places where products can be converted to reclaim are essential and one way is to use more products that will biodegrade or can be recycled. Wood has both these benefits, it will degrade in the ground and it can also be recycled into wood chippings to be used on footpaths or on gardens as a weed prohibitor.So to me wood is good and I will be buying more and more natural wooden toys as my children and grandchildren grow up. Maybe they will pass these toys onto their children to let them enjoy the hours of fun they have given to them.
